Of the little things

"People are more offended when they hear the word shit, than when they hear the news about thousands of people are dying somewhere." - Derek Webb.

For the unknown, the word shit is generally considered as a curse word on the same level as the word fuck here in the U.S. And I can't help but reflect on what Derek Webb said. And oh, Derek Webb is probably one of the most talented singer around. With just one mike, one guitar, and his voice, he totally rocks the whole ballroom where I attended his mini-concert.

Thing is, I have never understand why anyone would be offended by the four-letter words or any 三字经. True, it is a "curse" word. But, what meaning is there in it?
Except of course, the meaning we gave it.
Thing is, I probably do feel more offended when someone said fuck to me than when someone told me a thousand people are starved to death in one part of the world, and probably another thousand dying because of diseases and stuffs.
And of course, that still does not give me the right to curse as I like.
Thing is, I think our society have become so immune to these news, we eventually took it for granted - that people are dying. Everyday, and every second. Needlessly.

*sigh*
To be so starved of empathy.
