Innocence of a child

Matthew 18:3-4
And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
Those were the words of Jesus Christ.
..Why?..Why does Christ said that we have to change and become like little children so that we are able enter the kingdom of heaven?

We always say that a child is innocent. They see the world through a thoroughly different lens from us. We see it in terms of gains, losses, win, benefit, advantages..

They see it in terms of burps, gasses, food, milk, cookies, bubble-gums, Power Rangers..
They don't plot.
They don't scheme.
They may be selfish..
But in the end, their heart is pure.

How many of us can truly say that we have a child-like heart?

Yeah, it's probably hard to have an innocent heart like a child when the world we live in is crowded with scheming prick who masks themselves, hiding a knife behind their back.
So..
We have to be bigger.
To be meaner
To be fiercer
To be..
..more scheming..

In the end, we end up being one of them.

But, we don't have to be like them! Really.
We can see the world in terms of cookies, burps, gasses and more.
If only you are willing, this world is a world of cookies, burps and gasses.
Yeah, it may smell. But at least it doesn't "stink" like the real world.

I must take issue with the term "a mere child", for it has been my invariable experience that the company of a mere child is infinitely preferable to that of a mere adult. - Fran Lebowitz
